“The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind, The answer is blowin’ in the wind” — Bob Dylan
Those who grouse about wind turbines disturbing beautiful views should check out these photos. Which would you rather see looking out your back window?
YEA!
Let’s hear it for nuclear–still the cleanest and one of the safest sources of power per Watt available on the planet. (2nd from the bottom)
I picture says a 1000 words, Europe has used nuclear for decades without a problem. It our politicians in bed with the coal & oil companies that keep us down.
We just returned from Atlantic City where six windmills were turning away. Looking at them I would ask everyone, would you want to see these things all along the New Jersey shore, or in your town??
I would prefer to see a five nuclear power plants that produce power all the time than hundreds or thousands of windmills that only produce when the wind blows.
Personally if you ask me and nobody did but I will answer anyway. If there is a way to make coal less dirty then lets do it. If we can get 10% of our electricity from the wind then lets do it. If we can get 35% of our power from nuclear plants let do it.
Every once of power we get from other sources will go a long way into extending a less need for oil.
I do think the best places for the Nuclear Plants should be on Military Bases cause they would be the safest place for them with the most protection from terrorists.
Terrorism is not the only downside to nuclear energy. There’s the radioactive waste product, which has to be shipped somehow to the almost-complete Yucca Mtn facilty, which still hasn’t been approved to open by Congress. The potential for theft/terroism from the plants in the east to the repository in Nevada is, of course, troubling. Europe reuses their byproduct but this country doesn’t yet. Probably due to cost or lack of requirement that they do so. Anyone know? Of course, the nuclear industry promised already to give it all to Uncle Sam and helped fund the building of the repository in NV. And Uncle Sam has it’s own reasons for wanting to gather up all that nuclear material….hint: it can be used in bombs.
Then there is the Not In My Back Yard (NIMBY) mentality of most people. Locate them on military bases? They should be located near the customers for the energy, shouldn’t they?
And there’s no such thing as Clean Coal. Old Manufactured Gas Plant sites in NJ are full of contamination from their operation in the 1800s to early 1900s. And even if they have found a way to make the process of turning coal into gas clean, burning any fossil fuel adds to the global warming problem. And that is in addition to the fact that most coal these days is strip-mined……..not a pretty site, those strip mines. I would hardly call that being green.
