“Devil’s Tea Table” – A Fine Ramble
If you’re looking for a nice little ramble with a short steep ascent, superb views of the Delaware Valley, wooded ridge trail, interesting geology, solitude, and a sense of mystery, check out “Devil’s Tea Table” in Kingwood NJ (photo above).
Curious, I’ve lived in the area for a long time, and only recently learned of the place in a news article about an injured kayaker (h/t to Terry Wright at the Hunterdon County Democrat)
Access to the trail is just about 100 feet north of Warsaw Road on Rt. 29, or a little over 3 miles north of Bull’s Island – there’s a cut in the canal path at that location. Technically, the place is closed to public access and “No Parking” posted on Warsaw Road, but any realistic enforcement seems a low probability – but be safe out there kids and don’t try this at home!
What was it that Woody said about that:
As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said “No Trespassing.”
But on the other side it didn’t say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.
The ramble and river views are far better than Baldpate Mountain, Bowman’s Tower, Washington’s Rock, or Goat Hill – check it out.
