Sadly the last picture is to often repeated over and over. Not just in New Jersey but in to many places.
We have become a throw away society where we expect others to clean up our mess. Look along our highways and you see all kinds of trash. How difficult is it to put the trash in a bag and dispose of it at home. Even in parking lots with trash containers I see all kinds of trash, the worst of which are dirty diapers.
When my father found a bag of trash he would look for something with a name and address. He would sometimes mail the junk back to the person or send him a personal note thanking him for his garbage. Perhaps it did some good.
Dad was a wise man.
New Jersey’s state capitol, Trenton, is a prime example. I saw a mother walking with her toddler and she was unwrapping candy. She let the wrapper fall to the ground. This was in front of DEP. Walk around and see if DEP’s annual Clean Streets festival in April does any good. The message that people clean up their own mess or are responsible for their own streets does not register.
